During development of AWE Tuning’s 750R Turbo Kit for the 997.2TT, AWE experienced excessively high intake air temperatures. Since an OEM option was not available, and the power goals were well north of 700hp, AWE undertook the task to construct a completely new intercooler system. As with all AWE Tuning Intercoolers, a cast end tank was designed in house using sophisticated CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software. Once the end tanks were cast by the foundry, they were then machined on a CNC mill, welded to specially designed cores, and then power tested and refined on a chassis dynamometer.
Compared to stock, the AWE Tuning Porsche 997.2TT Performance Intercoolers’ cores are 37% larger (422 cubic inches vs 308 cubic inches). In contrast to the stock cores, AWE Tuning Porsche 997.2TT Performance Intercoolers are a high flow bar and plate style and are built to AWE's charge row and fin count specs. These specifications resulted in improved intake temperatures and improved drop pressure resistance through the core. Considering that extremely little trimming is involved to fit such effective units to the car, this is a huge engineering feat.
In addition to the superior core and end tank design, the AWE Tuning Porsche 997.2TT Performance Intercooler kit also features 6-ply silicone hoses with gentle curves to prevent bursting under pressure. They are attached to the intake and turbos by stainless steel high force t-bolt clamps, and a molded lip is integrated where the hoses meet the turbos to imitate the factory locking mechanism. Further, the hoses use a Nomex braiding for superior strength, instead of more common polyester. The very best materials and industry leading engineering separate this kit from all others on the market.
